A strong earthquake measuring 5 on Richter scale rattled the island of Crete on Tuesday morning. The earthquake occurred at 10:48 .a.m. Its epicenter was in the sea area of south Crete, some 68 km off Makris Gialos in the Prefecture of Lasithi.
Its focal depth was 15.5 km.
According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the earthquake was recorded at 5.6 R with epicenter 100 km of south Crete and focal depth 20 km.
The earthquake was felt in the southern parts of eastern Crete. However, it did not cause concern among the locals and the tourists, local media report.
