The Greek Foreign Ministry categorically dismissed the claims by Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, that the Greek Coast Guard “has been firing at refugee boats, sinking them and wounding the passengers.

“Similar unsubstantiated claims of alleged practices against refugees expose those who promote them, while insulting both the officials of the Greek authorities involved and the Greek citizens who make daily titanic efforts to save lives,” the statement said.
It adds “Greece is a favored, democratic state that effectively oversees its borders with full respect for international law and a high sense of humanity.”
The statement concludes “on the contrary, the allegations serve only those who propagate these claims to cover the reluctance to comply with their international commitments.”
