21 people have died of flu in Greece, 8 in just one week

The death toll of flu victims rose to 21, the Greek National Health Organization (EODDY) announced on Thursday, with eight of the victims to have died in just one week.

13 of the victims were hospitalized in Intensive Care Units.

Among the victims are 11 men and 10 women with their age ranging from 4 to 81 years.

The average age of the men was 68 and of women 75.

19 (90.5%) of the victims belonged to high-risk clinical group due to other health issues. 8 (42.1%) of them were vaccinated.

According to EODDY, the number of flu infected people who are hospitalized in ICUs has risen to 88.

58 of them are men and 30 women, with their age ranging from 0 to 96 years.

Laboratory tests have confirmed that 84 (95.5%) of them are infected with the type A influenza and 4 (4.5%) with the type B.

74 (84.1%) of the 88 above-mentioned cases hospitalized in ICU belong to a high-risk clinical group.

As the flu has reached its peak, dozens of primary and secondary education schools and kindergartens have been closed across the country from Wednesday until the upcoming weekend. Several schools and kindergartens were ordered to remain closed on Friday also in Attika.
