Despite the official cancellation of all carnival events due to coronavirus, some local clubs of the famous Patras carnival insisted in holding a parade. They put their costumes on and went downtown.
Hardly had make their appearance in the streets of Agios Georgios Square, several policemen on motorcycle rushed to prevent them from having fun in times of coronavirus.
Tension prevailed between the two fronts in uniforms and costumes with the latter saying that they were just walking through.
As police officers had no counter-argument, the joyful carnivalists proceeded with their plan.
– “What happened? Did they tell you to go away?” – “Nothing happened! Have a good Carnival.”
Yet, police accompanied them as they happily walked around, local media best reports.
According to a joint ministerial decision issued on Thursday, those violating the carnival ban are threatened with up to 2 years imprisonment.
