The number of total coronavirus infections surpassed 4,000 over the weekend, as Greek health authorities announced 24 news confirmed cases on Sunday evening. the total infections stand at 4,007 and the death toll remains at 194.
Among the new cases, 18 have been detected among tourists.
ON Saturday, the total infections stood at 3,983.
According to the latest weekly report of the National Health Organization EODY, 509 new cases have been recorded in the period July 1-15, 2020. Among them are 278 “imported” cases and 229 local. Majority of local cases are in Macedonia and Thrace (148). The remaining new cases are spread in several regions with Attica to top the least with 59 new cases.
The infections increase is estimated due to two reasons: opening of Greece’s borders to tourists already infected with the coronavirus and the relaxation of protective measures among the local population.

The new cases have been detected:
16 at the entry points in Greece.
2 more travellers voluntarily sought laboratories for Covid-19 test in the country after they developed some symptoms. They were tested positive.
The remaining new cases are:
2 in Attica and 2 in Thessaloniki
1 in Volos and 1 in Halkidiki.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Sunday, 54.7% of the total of infections affect men.
Of the total cases, 1,106 (27.6%) are related to travel abroad, 2,048 (51.1%) are related to an already known case. The rest are not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.
Average age of the infected in 49 with age range between 0 and 102.
Number of intubated patients in ICUs has increased to 13 (from 12 on Saturday).
The average age of the intubated patients is 58 years old, among them is 1 woman. 75% of the intubated patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.
124 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.
Number of coronavirus-related deaths has reached 194.
Among the deceased were 63 women. The average age of the deceased was 76 with range age between 35 and 102.
95.9% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.
Tests
According to the Health Ministry on Sunday, a total of 410766 tests have been conducted since beginning of the year, 6,162 (1.5%) are positive. The data include several tests conducted on a single patient, as well.
46,893 (11.4%) tests have been conducted among flight passengers since June 12, the EODY statement said, adding that 93 (0.2%) are positive.
PS things start to get critical in Greece, when the daily infections are above 50, health experts have said.
