Three settlements and one children’s summer camp were evacuated early afternoon Wednesday after the forest fire in Kehries by Corinth in eastern Peloponnese went out of control due to powerful winds.
Residents of Galataki, Zimens and Agios Konstantinos as well as the children of the camp were transferred to safe places as the settlements and the camp were on the path of the blaze.
More than 77 firefighters with 26 fire trucks assisted by four fire fighter teams on the ground, 2 aircraft and 5 helicopters are struggling against the fire.
The blaze is reportedly moving towards the village of Athikia with authorities to have ordered its evacuation.
The fire broke out in Loutra Oraias Elenis, a forest area around noon time near a military camp with large ammunition depots. The camp was not in imminent danged as strong forces were placed along the fence.
The fire reached very close to houses of the Zimens settlement.
According to latest unofficial information, some summer houses in the area have burned down.

The fire in Kehries is just one of the many burning across Greece on Wednesday. Wildfires are currently active also in Ancient Olympia, in Petalidi, Messinia, also in Peloponnese as well as on the island of Lesvos.
