Greece Civil Aviation extends flight ban, non-EU citizens entry

Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority extended the flight ban from several non-EU countries until the middle of the month August 2020 as the obligation to citizens from specific countries to enter only with negative Covid-19 test.

These are new air instructions (notams) issued by the Civil Aviation Service, will be valid until 14 and 15 August 2020, and are aimed at preventing Covid-19 in our country.

The new air instructions (notams) issued by the CAA on Friday, July 31, 2020, are:

Suspension of flights to/from Turkey, Albania and North Macedonia will be extended until August 15 at 23:59. The usual exceptions remain valid.

Those travelling by air to Greece from Bulgaria, Romania and the United Arab Emirates will enter only with a negative COVID-19 test conducted 72 hours prior before their arrival. The measure is extended until August 15.

Entry ban for non-European citizens is extended until August 14.

Specifically, the ban is in effect from Friday, July 31, until midnight, August 14.

The following 12 countries are excluded from this aviation directive (Notam):

  • Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay,
    United Arab Emirates.

According to the CAA press release, Airlines must check whether passengers have a negative Covid-19 test before the flight, as its absence obliges the airline not to embark the passenger. Airlines that do not comply with this control obligation will be responsible for the repatriation of passengers at the expense of the company. Greek citizens, holders of residence permits and those who travel for essential reasons are excluded from the air directive.

At the same time, the obligation to complete the Passenger Locator Form (PLF) before arrival in Greece remains in force.

COVID-19 test for passengers on international flights arriving in our country is provided in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, EODY and Civil Protection.

    • Hi Debbie,

I was ticketed to fly on July 31st but changed my travel arrangements to err on the side of caution. I filled out my plf form on Wednesday and received my barcode on Thursday night.

I’m thinking you’ll get an email somewhere within the next 24 hours.

      Good luck in your travels.

  2. The code will arrive at 10pm UK time the night before you are due to travel.

  3. When is Greece planning on opening to US citizens? It was presumed August 1st, yet the ban is still in place.
