Schools in Greece to open on Sept 7

Schools in Greece will open on September 7, 2020, government spokesman Stelios Petsas announced on Monday.

Speaking to Open TV, he said “we will have to face again the same main challenges.”

He underlined that personal health measures and the safety distances must be observed, however, he did not elaborate on whether the government has a specific plan other than the general measures.

Last week, media reported of scenarios to open the schools towards the end of September due to resurgence of the pandemic. State broadcaster ERT TV reported that there are some thoughts to have pupils wear a mask during classes, but the issue was still under discussion.

Asked about the need of more tighten protection measures in general, he left this possibility open.

He said “we are not in the condition we were in March as the average number of incidents in comparison with patients in ICU and those intubated is much lower.”

“The increased incidents have not yet put pressure to the health system”, Petsas added.
