Borrell tells German MoD: “Turks are upset with Greeks,” consider them “unreliable”

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Joseph Borrell caught on microphone saying that the “Turks are upset” with the Greeks on the deal with Egypt and that Turks consider the Greeks as “unreliable.” Borrell was discussing with German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, when the “impartial EU top diplomat” decided to convey to her the Turkish views, while she o her part means that “Greeks and Cypriots must contribute to de-escalation.”

An effort to mediate a thaw between Greece and Turkey was “smooth” on the Greek side but “really hard on the Turkish side,” Kramp-Karrenbauer told Borrell.

The video published on Wednesday from a press conference at the informal meeting of European defense ministers in the German capital shows the two officials discussing talks with Greek and Turkish officials in front of an open microphone.

“How was it?” Borrell asks Kramp-Karrenbauer.

“Hard,” she replies. “A little bit more smooth on the Greek side, but really hard on the Turkish side.”

“The Turks are very upset with this deal with Egypt,” comments Borrell, in reference to the recent exclusive economic zone agreement signed between Athens and Cairo.

“They feel that the Greek are not reliable,” he adds.

Chancellor Angela Merkell will brief President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday, the German Defense Minister told Borrell.

The video was broadcast by Skai TV and the dialogue is towards the end.

In statements to journalists, Kramp-Karrenbauer said that the Greek-Turkish crisis is not just an issue between the two countries, but “it concerns us all, the EU and the NATO.”

PS If you have such EU friends like Borrell, you don’t need enemies like the Turks. Such “impartial EU officials” better resign and retire to some Spanish finca. As for the German point of view on the issue it has been clear for quite some time, that Greece has to make some concessions towards Turkey.
