Greece’s meteorological services warn of a weather deterioration with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and powerful winds up to 7-8 Beaufort. The bad weather front will be of short duration but powerful.
Both the National Meteorological Service (EMY) and and National Observatory of Athens warn that the heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are initially expected to hit the Ionian Sea, Epirus and western Sterea as of early Monday afternoon, September 28, 2020.
The bad weather front is forecast to extend further to the East and South and affect Macedonia, Thessaly and later western Peloponnese.
The weather phenomena are expected to be locally intense in Ionian Sea, Epirus and West mainland.
Rain and local storms are forecast in the Peloponnese, the eastern Sterea, Attica, Evia and possible also the northern Cyclades islands.
Hail is possible in Peloponnese.
In the night of Monday to Tuesday, Sept 28-29, the intense weather phenomena will possibly affect Thrace and the islands of the North-Eastern Aegean Sea.
At the same time, the south winds bring Sahara dust from North Africa.
PS Some meteorologist forecast that the weather will singificanlty improve towards the weekend with temperatures reaching up to 30 Degrees Celsius.
