Even though NPHO staff consider that, given the negative results of tests conducted en route and the also negative results of the tests on Tuesday morning, the probability that some among them are infected is vanishingly small, state-run news agency amna reported. The NPHO teams proceeded to carry out molecular tests, whose results are expected to confirm that the 12 members of the crew are not infected.
Cruise ship “Mein Schiff 6” arrived at the port of Piraeus early on Tuesday morning after 12 crew members were found to have tested positive for coronavirus during random testing.
The ship left the port of Heraklio, Crete, on Sunday night and was sailing off the island of Milos on Monday when the first test results came out. The ship was ordered to sail to Piraeus.
According to media information, random testing of 150 crew members was carried out in a laboratory contracted with the company in Heraklion.
Those 12 who were tested positive had low virus load and are all asymptomatic, media reported.
The ship is being inspected by EODY teams. In the meantime, nobody is being allowed to disembark from the ship.
TUI Cruises said that repeat tests on the 12 showed that six had no trace of the virus and the other six were awaiting the results of testing on Tuesday morning.
The measures of hygiene on the ship and the cleaning protocol give no reason to fear possible transmission to the passengers, other crew members and staff, TUI said, as it has a comprehensive system to deal with possible Covid-19 cases on board.
Tests were reportedly conducted also on board, as Mein Schiff has such a facility.
Mein Schiff 6 is carrying 922 passengers and 666 crew and staff and conducts cruises from Heralkio to the island of Corfu. Among the crew members are 23 Greek nationals.
