Greece recorded 438 new coronavirus cases and 9 more deaths in the last 24 hours, health authorities announced on Sunday evening. The number of new confirmed infections over the weekend is over 1,400 people. The country started lately to increase the daily tests at an average of 16,000 per day. However, it should be noted that test results from private laboratories usually are published Tuesdays.
The total cases have reached 25,370 and death toll is up to 509.
Of the new 438 cases on Sunday, 32 were detected among tourists.
Attica is again on top of the list with 164 new cases.
Greece is experiencing a second wave of the pandemic that is unable to hold.
The spike does not stop parts of the society to crowd either at parties nor in churches where they receive the Holy Communion from a spoon shared with dozens others, even in areas placed in lockdown, like in the Regional unit of Kozani.

According to the official daily bulletin on Sunday, 3508 (13.8%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 10153 (40.0%) are related to already known infection case.
55.6% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs is 84 from 83 a day earlier. Their average age is 66, among them are 24 women. 94% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
256 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Nine more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 509. Of the deceased 193 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.3% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,542,156.
Tests in the last 24 hours: 14,898 with 2.94% of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.
Daily growth at +1.8%.

Of the 438 new coronavirus cases, 32 are related to known clusters and 28 were detected at the country’s entry points.
While the second biggest city in the country, Thessaloniki, seemed to had taken the pandemic under control, a rise of infections has been detected in the last couple of days.
Majority of new cases are recorded in Attica
28 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 4 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

The number of elderly in the care home in Glyfada suburb of south Athens increased to 12. Also two staff members have been tested positive.
