Greece’s health authorities announced on Tuesday evening 2,384 new coronavirus cases and for second consecutive day, another 41 Covid-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours.At the same time the number of intubated Covid patients increased to 263 (+24 when compared to Monday).
Among the intubated Covid-19 patients 8 are from the age group 40-64. From the same age group were also 7 of the latest fatalities.
Total cases have reached 60,571 and death toll 866.
Again, Thessaloniki tops the list of regions regarding daily infections with 652 new cases. Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said that “test positivity rate in Thessaloniki is 32%.”
Doctors in the city’s biggest hospital AHEPA said earlier today that there were not more ICU beds available and that they will have to make choices.
Kikilias said that Covid patients could be moved to hospitals in different regions if required – but the measure was not needed yet.
Instead of the much promised and much anticipated recruitment of doctors and nurses, the Greek government decided to hire doctors only and with 6 months + 6 months work contracts.
Meanwhile, the Medical Association of Thessaloniki has called on private doctors to join the public hospitals.
“The situation in the hospitals of Thessaloniki, due to the covid pandemic that is galloping, needs the urgent contribution of all of us towards our fellow human beings who are suffering,” the MATh said in an sms message sent to its members.
According to National Health Care Organization, the Covid-19 spread marker Rt was 1.2 across the country and 1.1 in the regional unit of Attica on November 2.

According to the official daily bulletin on Tuesday, 4510 (7.4%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 16382 (27%) are related to already known infection case.
54.2% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 263 !!!from 239 day earlier. Their average age is 66, among them are 71 women. 86.3% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
336 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Fourth-one more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 866. Of the deceased 351 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.5% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,977,560.
Tests in the last 24 hours: 25,217 with 9.45%of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.
