COVID-19: 8 ICU beds available in Thessaloniki, 45 in Attica

Only eight COVId-19 ICU beds are available in Thessaloniki and 45 in Attica, The Greek Health Ministry announced on Friday. 220 of 1,200 ICU beds in total are vacant across the country.

The non-COVID-19 ICU beds now number 569, of which 445 are occupied and 124 are vacant.

The COVID-19 ICU beds are 651. Of them 555 are occupied and 96 vacant.

The COVID-19 ICU beds in Thessaloniki (including the hospitals of Halkidiki, Katerini and Kavala) are 218 in total and of these, only eight remained unoccupied on Friday.

Additionally,  there were 218 COVID-19 ICU beds in Attica-area hospitals. On Friday morning, 173 of these beds were occupied and 45 vacant (20.5 percent).

Friday morning the government requisitioned  two private clinics in Thessaloniki after the Association of Private Clinics owners refused to make available 200 beds/

The requisition took place in order to ease the burden on the Greek National Health System in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the second biggest city of the country.
