Greece records 693 new coronavirus cases, 85 more deaths

Greece’s health authorities announced on Sunday 693 new coronavirus cases and another 85 deaths in the past 24 hours. 552 Covid-19 patients are intubated in hospitals across the country.

Death toll has reached 3,625 and the total cases stand at 124,625.

Positive is that the average rates (last 7 days) in deaths and intubations have decreased to blow 90 and 580 respectively.

Regarding the new cases it should be noted that due to weekend the tests were several thousands below the average on work days.

According to the official daily bulletin on Sunday, 5109(4.1%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 35564 (28.6%) are related to already known infection case.

The remaining infections are without known source.

52.6% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 552 from 577 a day earlier. Their average age is 66, among them are 162 women. 77% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

The number of intubated Covid-19 patients hardly surpasses 600 due to the capacity in the country’s hospitals.

730 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Another 85 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 3625. Of the deceased 1448 (39.9%) were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 95.8% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 1304 from 1609 last week.

Total tests since begin of the outbreak are

Tests in the last 24 hours: 9,432 with 7.35% οf them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

Daily growth at +0.6%

Geographical distribution December 13

There must have been something worng in todya,s data as total new cases in ‘geographical distribution’ are given as 703 and not 693 as in EODY press release. Anyway, of the 703 new coronavirus cases, 10 were detected at the country’s entry points.

10 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 1 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

  1. Please correct this article where there is an error during translation in the numbers for Paros. Many people on Paros are worried about what appears to be the sudden reporting of 10 cases on the island, when – in fact – there are zero cases reported by EODY on 13/12. Thanks.
