Greece records 928 new coronavirus cases, 40 deaths in 24 hours

Greece’s health authorities announced on Tuesday, 928 new coronavirus cases and another 40 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 patients intubated in hospitals across the country stands at 405.

Death toll has reached 5,051 and the total cases stand at 141,453.

New infections doubled when compared to Monday and this has to do with the fact that testing has been increased after the New Year holidays.

According to the official daily bulletin on Tuesday, 5517(3.9%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 42416 (30%) are related to already known infection case.

The remaining infections are without known source.

52.3% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 405 from 407 a day earlier. Their average age is 68, among them are 270 (66.7%) men. 83.5% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

907 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Another 40 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 5051. Of the deceased 2.999 (59.4%) were men. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 95.4% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 640 from 651 last week.

Total tests since begin of the outbreak are 2828461 PCR and 604250 Rapid Ag tests

Of the 928 new coronavirus cases, 31 were detected at the country’s entry points.

31 of the new cases were detected at entry points, ? more travelers were already in the country.

The remaining cases are:

  1. MASS testing is ESSENTIAL to find COVID POS, who don’t feel ill. 30% of infected DO NOT feel I’ll, so they go to work, travel by metro. UNPROFESSIONELL AND IRRESPONSIBLE only to set on measures. That’s cheap, easy, but INEFFECTIVE.
