Greece recorded a new spike in coronavirus infections with 1,526 new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours. The number of deaths surpassed 6,000 after authorities announced another 20 fatalities on Tuesday evening. The number of Covid-19 patients intubated in hospitals across the country has increased to 277.
Death toll has reached 6,017 and the total cases stand at 166,067.
750 of the 1526 new infections have been detected in Attica that hit a new record in the last couple of weeks.
A hard lockdown in Athens and Attica will be announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at 7:30 pm on Tuesday.
There are thoughts of a hard lockdown also in Thessaloniki and Patras, yet decisions are expected to be taken tomorrow Wednesday.
Mutations
15 more strains of the mutated UK lineage B.1.1.7 have been detected Jan 28-Feb 8, 2021.
1 in Attica (hospital), 9 in Thessaloniki (7 community, 2 hospitals), 5 at entrance gates.
Total: 412 cases of UK lineage and 6 from South African Lineage.

According to the official daily bulletin 6061 (3.6%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 52913 (61.0%) are related to already known infection case.
The remaining infections are without known source.
51.9% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 277 from 276 a day earlier. Their average age is 70, among them are 200(72.2%) men. 85.2% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
1,176 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Another 20 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 6017. Of the deceased 3534(58.7%) were men. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 95.6% of them had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
