Ferries & ships passengers at port 1.5 hour before departure as Coast Guard takes over controls

The Greek Coast Guard is to take over the checks that passengers boarding ferries and ships comply with Covid rules as of Thursday, July 14, 2021, the Shipping and Island Policy Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis  announced on Wednesday.

Passengers should be at the ports at least 1.5 hours before departure of ferries and ships.

Plakiotakis said this will ensure that checks are thorough and vouchsafe the maximum possible protection of the passengers’ health.

“I ask for the cooperation of all travelling by ferry or ship.. I ask them to carry all the necessary documents with them, to be meticulous in observing the measures, to follow the instructions of the men and women of the Coast Guard. Also, for their greater convenience, to be at the port at least 1.5 hours ahead of the departure time of the ship. With vaccination, following the measures and responsibility, we can enjoy this year’s summer in good health,” he said.

PS The decision obviously follows many passengers’ complaints that not adequate control checks are carried out before boarding.

  1. Yeah…Mass hysteria at its best.

  2. This is hilarious. I just had a friend who travelled to the Peloponnese on ferry and the only thing they checked was to make sure he had his PLF completed. He showed the guy his vaccine card and told him he doesn’t want to see that just the PLF. Then we wonder why the numbers are going up.

  3. My wife and I travelled with the Superfast/Anek ferry from Ancona to Igoumenitsa and back in May and July respectively. We were both shocked and disappointed at at least 50% of passenger’s total disregard for the few precautions required of them, although there were regular requests broadcast on the ship’s tannoy to do so. This is why we still have this problem one and a half years after it started and still no end in sight. Thankyou fellow humans.

  4. Last week the Port Police (Coast Guard )were checking vaccination certificates at the port gates of Naxos, now no checks.
