Bogus Rapid tests: Pharmacist, police & army officers arrested in N Greece

A pharmacist, two police officers and eight members of the Armed forces are among those sixteen people arrested in Orestiada, north-eastern Greece, for bogus certificates of negative Rapid Tests essential for going to work and social activities.

According to media reports, the pharmacist was supplying customers with fake certificates showing that they had a negative antigen test. Then he was reportedly uploading the fake results on the state online platform where employees obliged to Rapid tests should have posted the result twice per week. The customers had never undergone a Rapid test, though.

Police launched an investigation on the case after citizens denounced the pharmacists’ illegal activities to authorities at the police station of Alexandroupolis. Preliminary investigation found out that the pharmacist was uploading the bogus negative tests at times the pharmacy was closed. “that was his grave mistake,” investigators told media.

So far, police has arrested a total of 16 people, among them are two police officers and eight members of the Armed Forces.

Local media evros-news reports that one of the officers is head of a police station, while the other is a border guard.

Arrested are also 8 members of the Armed Forces.

According to the local media, the pharmacist in a village by Soufli had close professional contacts to the Armed Forces

Unvaccinated employees are obliged to present two negative Rapid tests per week at a cost of 10 euros per test. Since the additional restrictions on unvaccinated citizens in Greece have been implemented, the negative Rapid test allows them also more social activities.

Police investigation into the case continues.
