“Bianca” strikes northern Greece with heavy snowfalls (videos)

Bad weather front Bianca stroke northern Greece with heavy snowfalls and ice conditions that forced authorities to ban trucks from Egnatia Odos highway and motorists to use snow chains on Sunday.

Traffic was banned on many rural roads around Thessaloniki, Chortiatis-Agios Vassilios and Melissochori-Oreokastro due to adverse weather conditions.

The city of Thessaloniki he city itself has been lashed by strong winds and rain since morning, followed by a sharp drop in temperature.

Snow fell also in western Macdonia, Epirus, Thessaly, Mt Pilion and the mountains of Trikala and, Larissa.

In Karditsa (video) and Florina snow reach more than 50 cm, power outages occurred in many areas. Schools will remain closed there on Monday.

Greece’s national meteorological service EMY issued a warning on the bad weather front Bianca forecasting that it will  move more to the South with heavy rainfalls and powerful winds on Monday and Tuesday. More details here on KTG.
