Greece has enough energy supplies, payment to Gasprom end of May

Greece has sufficient energy and no interruption in the country’s supplies is expected, according to an emergency meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday.

Greece’s energy supplies are secured and the country will make the next payment to Russian gas producer Gazprom at the end of May, the office of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Wednesday.

The next payment to Gazprom will take place “in the last ten days of May”, Mitsotakis’ office said in a statement.

The conservative premier earlier on Wednesday chaired an emergency meeting with energy sector representatives to discuss the impact on Greece’s gas supply after Russian Gazprom’s decision to suspend natural gas delivery to Poland and Bulgaria on Tuesday because they did not pay in rubles.

Greece is and will remain energy adequate and no interruption in the country’s supplies is expected, sources told media adding that the Energy Ministry has already provided alternative plans in case of need.
