Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issue an emergency bulletin on Monday noon warning of a weather deterioration with heavy rainfalls and thunderstorms accompanied by a high frequency of lightning and hail. During the weather phenomena, there will be temporarily also enhanced gusty winds, EMY warns.
According to EMY, the weather deterioration will last from Tuesday to Friday, August 23-26, 2022, with the peak of the bad weather forecast on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the National Observatory of Athens meteo service, the weather deterioration set in already on Monday, August 22, and rainfalls are expected in the areas on the map below: Orange: areas with possibility of significant rainfalls; Yellow: areas with light possibility of hail.
The phenomena will also manifest in hours outside of classical volatility (noon – afternoon) and will affect not only the mainland but also the islands and especially the Aegean Sea, ΕΜΥ warns.
The highest rain volume is expected in Thessaly, the Sporades islands, northern Evia, northern Aegean Sea and Halkidiki mainly on Wednesday and Thursday.

Tuesday, Aug 23
Intermittent heavy rainfalls and storms are forecast in: central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, eastern Sterea, the Sporades, Evia, the islands of the northern Aegean. From noon and afternoon also the rest of the mainland and Crete.
Wednesday, Aug 24
The strong weather phenomena will continue and will affect from early in the morning: the eastern mainland and the islands -except the Dodecanese-. From noon – afternoon also the rest of the mainland.
Thursday, Aug 25
Heavy rains and storms are forecast in : central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, eastern Sterea, the Sporades, Evia, islands in the North-East Aegean Sea. From noon-afternoon also the rest of the mainland and Crete.
Friday, Aug 26
According to data available so far, the weather phenomena will continue in the above mentioned areas but will progressively weaken.
