Young Briton who forced flight to divert to Thessaloniki released without conditions

Α young Briton who was arrested at the international airport of Thessaloniki for forcing an airplane to divert and do an emergency landing was released by Greek authorities without conditions.

The incident occurred last Friday on a commercial flight from London to Paphos, Cyprus. The 22-year-old became drunk and harassed other passengers and the crew thus forcing the pilot to divert the airplane to Thessaloniki.

Two empty bottles of alcoholic beverages were found next to the man’s seat.

During his testimony, the young British national reportedly admitted to the examining magistrate that he was drunk, claiming that he was using alcohol to manage his anxiety because, as he said, he was about to meet his parents again after many years.

The prosecutor and the examining magistrate agreed that the 22-year-old Briton should be released until his trial, He spent three days in a police jail.
