A 29-year-old mother accused of throwing her 11-month-old baby into Aliakmonas river dam finally confessed to the crime during the re-enactment of the crime at the spot on Monday.
Initially and right after her arrest on January 2st, the woman had claimed an accident saying that the baby crawled into the water while she was checking her mobile phone. She could not save it from the cold river water because she did not know swimming.
On Monday she admitted that she had thrown her baby daughter into the water and let her die.
The mother’s confession will now also charge charges against her to “homicide with intent.”
The woman has been suffering from psychical issues and had been hospitalized several time in the past.
She was living with the baby together with her mother and her grandfather. Her relationship with the baby’s father was reportedly a casual one.
Α social worker from the local municipality was checking on and off whether the mother was able to take care of the child.
The baby’s father wanted to claim custody for his daughter but neither the mother nor her family allowed him to recognized the child as his own, he told media.
The case was revealed when the woman who had left home together with the baby on New Year’s Eve but returned the next day without it.
Her family alerted authorities.
The woman is still to undergo a psychiatric examination.
Her lawyer told Mega TV on Monday afternoon that she did not mention any motive to authorities. She had difficulties to comprehend that the child has died.

An example of “male privilege”. I hope she gets 20 years in prison. Social worker, grandmother and grandfather should be punished as well for enabling this.
Custody means you take the child away from whom its living with and replace it with a new guardian. Maybe the mother and her family was afraid to loose the child. We dont know the whole story… But one thing is for certain, a child is 50 percent mother and 50 percent father, i.e. the father and mother has equal “rights” to the child. The really sad thing here is that the poor girl is dead! Poor mother who has to live with the fact that she killed her own child! And poor father who wanted to take part in her life…
