Athens Metro workers on work stoppage on March 1

Workers at Metro Lines 2 and 3 as well as at urban train ISAP (Metro Line 1) will launch a work stoppage on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, thus causing troubles to commuters.

The issue is particularly complicated to ordinary people as the work stoppage will last shorter than originally scheduled, while the managing company has appealed to courts to cancel the mobilization.

As of early Tuesday evening, the situation reportedly looks like the following:

Urban train ISAP (Metro Line 1): Work stoppage starting in the morning, ends at 2 p.m.

Metro Line 2 and 3: Work stoppage from 6 p.m. until the end of the shift.

For this mobilization, managing company STA.SY. has appealed to the courts and the decision is awaited, which will decide whether the work stoppage will finally take place.

STASY Employees’ Union has effectively announced a 21-hour strike, however, from noon onward the routes will operated as normal in accordance with the minimum guaranteed service defined by the current legislation.

As a result, although mobilization will typically be in progress from the start to the end of the shift, Line 1 services will not operate until 2pm, and from that day onwards service on the electric network will be restored fully.

Protesting workers point out in a statement that the mobilization is taking place because of “the hundreds of vacant jobs in the fixed track public transport networks” and that “drivers working with exhausting hours, without rest, even full 12 hours, with  whatever consequences” for their safety and of the passengers.”
