Α strong earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter occurred in the sea area 25 kilometers south of the island of Astypalaia in the south Aegean Sea.
Some seismology institutes give the magnitude also as 5.1R, 5.3R and 5.5. R
The earthquake occurred at 11 o’ clock Wednesday night, April 26, 2023.
It had a focal depth of 108.4 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt in the neighboring islands and particularly on the island of Crete.
According to local media cretalive.gr, the tremor was felt throughout Crete, especially in Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, Sitia and many more areas of the prefectures of Heraklion and Lasithi. It had a long duration and the sense of its intensity presented an escalation.
Some locals posted on social media that they felt their house was shaking for 30 seconds.
It was also felt in turkey.

Seismologists Gerasimos Houliaras told media that th earthquake is not of concern due to its high focal depth of over 100 km.
