Athens-Thessaloniki highway partly closed due to flooding

Traffic on Athens-Thessaloniki highway has been disrupted due to flooding in Central Greece that lead to the closure of roads in a number of sections on the motorway between the two cities.

Due to an increased volume of water on the highway, police ordered the closure to traffic of the section from the Malgara toll station up to the border with Pieria regional unit.

Cars whose destination is Pieria may pass, however.

Diversions are in place for Athens-bound traffic via the Egnatia motorway.

In the other direction, towards Thessaloniki, the motorway and its side roads are closed to all traffic from Larissa to Imathia.

Meanwhile, also traffic in Athens ring highway Attiki Odos Exit 8 to the Athens-Lamia Highway leading from the Athens Internatonal Airport toward Piraeus will be shut down from 22:00 on Saturday (Sept. 9) to 10:00 on Sunday for heavy repairs on the tarmac.

The Athens-Lamia Highway at that point will only be shut down in one direction and traffic diverted. The exit leading to Lamia will be open as usual.

Traffic police has called on drivers to be on alert when they drive through the project points and to follow signs.
