The 42-year-old woman had died at the spot when paramedics arrived, the 38-year-old man short time after.
The couple had been divorced in mutual consent since about a year ago and they had separated in mutual consent neighbors said adding that the victim did not longer wanted the man in her life
The man had returned to his parents’ home and he took his father’s hunting rifle to shoot his estranged wife and himself.
The perpetrator was serving without weapon at the secretariat of the Sub-Directorate of Technical Applications of Northern Greece, having been assigned there because he had tendinitis, newsit.gr reported.
According to state-run news agency amna, the police officer had waited for his children, aged 12 and 14, to leave on the school bus before making his way up to his wife’s apartment.
Local media grtimes reported citing one of the perpetrator’s friends that the police officer was telling his father he would kill his ex wife “because he loved her madly.”
The victim had won restrain order against her ex husband who insisted that they get back together. A court had fixed times when he could see the children.
It’s not the first and it won’t be the last femicide in the Greek patriarchal and conservative society, where immature and disturb men continue to believe that they own a woman and they are unable to deal with rejection.
