Erdogan urges UN members to recognize illegally occupied territories in Cyprus

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged the global community to recognize the independence of the illegally occupied territories of Northern Cyprus.

Reiterating his call made at the UN General Assembly last year, Erdogan asked the global community to recognize the independence of the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, to establish diplomatic, political, and economic ties.

Erdogan was speaking at the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

He also added that there have to be two equal, independent states in Cyprus.

Erdogan did not made any reference to Greece. He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis later on Wednesday.
