The new mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, was sworn into office on Thursday, alongside the members of the new municipal council.
The ceremony held at the Kypseli municipal market to symbolize the “municipality’s return to neighborhoods,” aw the new mayor stressed.
Doukas added that he will serve the citizens of Athens honestly and conscientiously and asked the councilors for unity and cooperation so that the new administration can meet the needs of the citizens and restore their trust.
He listed three conditions to ensure a new start for Greece’s capital:
- a clean and environmentally-friendly city
- a new administrative model where each councilor will be in charge of one particular duty
- establishing a new relationship between the municipality and the citizens, ensuring that they have a say in all decisions.
