Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued a weather warning of a temporary deterioration with heavy rainfalls and storms and stormy southern winds.
The barometric low will affect Greece from Saturday afternoon, January 6, until Sunday evening, January 7, 2024.

Saturday, Jan 6 (Epiphany)
a) Heavy rainfalls and storms are forecast from late afternoon in the Ionian islands, Epirus, western Sterea and western Peloponnese.
b) Southern winds blowing with intensity 7-8 Beaufort will blow from noon in the Ionian Sea and in the afternoon in the Aegean Sea, while during the night they will strengthen in places up to 9 Beaufort.
Sunday, Jan 7
a) Heavy rainfalls and storms will continue until the afternoon in western Greece (Ionian, Epirus, western Sterea, western and southern Peloponnese) and will weaken in the evening.
From early in the morning, heavy rainfalls and storms at times will affect eastern Macedonia, Thrace and possibly the islands of the eastern Aegean Sea in places with an improvement from the afternoon.
b) Winds will blow in the seas from the south-southwest of intensity 7 to 8 and temporarily in the morning in places 9 Beaufort.
Note that especially strong southern winds affect sea traffic.
After a long period of fair weather and temperatures above the seasonal average, Greek meteorologists forecast a bad weather front as of next week with significant temperature drop and snowfalls.
