Two Special Guards were arrested by the Internal Affairs Service of the Greek Police on Monday morning and a case was filed against them for torture and complicity in torture, respectively.
The arrested Special Guards were identified as the police officers involved in an incident of a citizen abuse in central Athens on Sunday evening after an exclusive video was posted by daily ethnos.gr.
, which was released on the internet via video and concerns the exercise of physical violence against a citizen-demonstrator during his immobilization and arrest, yesterday Sunday (28.1.2024) evening in Ampelokipi.
The video shows one Special Guard repeatedly punching the citizen who does not show any sign or move of resistance. His colleague, the second Special Guard, is watching without trying to stop him. As the first policeman throws the citizen to the ground and beat him mercilessly, shouts urging him to stop are heard from the surrounding balconies in Ampelokipoi district of Athens. for them to stop.

The brutal abuse took place after two gatherings, one by far-right and one by anti-fascists in the area.
The arrested Special Guards are taken to the competent Prosecutor.
