Mitsotakis: “No question of sending European NATO forces to Ukraine”

“There is no issue of sending European NATO forces into Ukraine,” Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said after the conference on the support of Ukraine in Paris on Monday and the proposal of French president Emmanuel Macron.

I believe that we reaffirmed our unity and our determination to support Ukraine so that it can defend itself in the best possible way against the Russian invasion. I think we have also reached a framework which I would tell you does not deviate particularly from the decisions we have taken in the European Council on how this aid can, in a practical way, have a more substantial and useful result for Ukraine,” Mitsotakis told journalists.

“Beyond that, because I also heard various comments from colleagues, my counterparts, about issues that may have been discussed in the room, I want to assure you that there is no question of sending European forces, NATO forces, into Ukraine. There is no such issue for Greece and I believe that there is no such issue for the great majority of our partners,” the PM stressed.

Such a “discussion is distracting from the essence of our effort to actually support Ukraine at this moment,” Mitsotakis added.
