A worrying statement in possible involvement of Greece and Cyprus in the developments in the Middle East was made by the Minister of Transport of Israel Miri Regev.
Regev announced on Monday that “If we are attacked, we may request help from the Israeli Air Force and ships from Athens in Greece and Larnaca in Cyprus,” media reported on Monday.
In a speech a few weeks ago, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah had warned Cyprus against any supporting role for Israel in any attack against Lebanon.
So far, there is not reaction to Regev’s statements neither by Greece nor by Cyprus.
Regev’s announcement comes in light of the expectation of a massive attack by Hezbollah and Iran on Israel after the killing of Hamas leader in Tehran and Hezbollah military leader Fouad Shukr during the Israeli offensive in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
