The Perseid meteor shower is reaching its peak on Monday night, offering a unique spectacle in the sky on August 12, 2024.
The Perseid meteor shower is the most impressive summer ‘rain’ of shooting stars every August and is visible also in Greece.
Without needing any equipment, armed only patience until the eyes get used to the darkness and are able to spot the shooting stars. The spectacle is visible from a location without lighting.
The best time to watch the falling stars is after midnight, when the meteor numbers should increase each hour. If you can’t stay up that late, there should still be some shooting stars whizzing by between 9 p.m. and midnight.
The phenomenon occurs every year at the same time, between July 17 to August 24, and peaks around the same date.
This year we will see the height of the Perseid shower on the night of August 12 to 13, when the shooting stars will appear more frequently.
PS In Greece it is tradition that we make a wish when we see a falling star – and then wait for years to come true…
