65-year-old Dutch tourist who had been missing on the eastern Aegean island of Samos was found dead on Wednesday morning.
The body was found by a member of a Dutch rescue team in the area of Panagia Stiliani over the Pythagorio school, local media reported.
The woman, Brigitte van Gennip, was spending vacations on the island in the eastern Aegean Sea, when went missing on Thursday morning, August 22. She had gone for a hike around the Eupalinos Trench. Her daughter had appealed for help in finding her mother.
Local and Dutch search teams, including eight dogs brought from the Netherlands, had been conducting a search for her.
According to local media, authorities first estimations excluded “crime” suspecting that the woman fell from a height and was killed.
An autopsy is to determine the exact causes of her death.
She is the second Dutch tourist losing his life during a hike on the island of Samos in summer 2024 and the 7th who died.
One US national and two French women remain missing on the islands of Amorgos and Sikinos respectively.
