Greek Seamen end strike at 2 pm Friday, first ferries left ports

The Greek Federation of Seamen (PNO) announced early Friday afternoon that they end their strike after a meeting with Maritime Minister, Christos Stylianidis,  earlier today. First ferries already left the port of Piraeus.

  • If you plan to travel by sea, check with local port authorities, shipping companies and travel agents.

The first ferries already left the port of Piraeus short after 1:30 p.m., Skai TV reported adding that there may be some extra ships and ferries for the transport of passengers and goods.

Due to long weekend on the occasion of the national holiday, October 28, many Greeks had planned for a short trip to the islands that they were about to cancel due to the strike.

Hotel and accommodation owners had complained to media on Thursday of quite some cancellations of bookings.

The strike started on Monday, October 22, and was scheduled to end in the early morning hours of Saturday morning, October 26, 2024.

In a statement the PNO reportedly said that they end their strike as of 2 p.m. on Friday after Maritime Minister Christos Stylianidis committed himself to some of their demands that include protection of workers’ rights, pay and unemployment allowance increase.
