Tourist in Crete goes swimming despite warnings (rescue video)

A tourist in the area of Platanias near Chania on the island of Crete ignored warnings and went for a swim in a rough sea. He absolutely ignored surfers’ warnings of adverse weather conditions and set his own but also the lives of others at risk.

The ignorant tourist was soon in danger as he could not return to the shore due to the waves.

Several surfers at the beach jumped in the water and pulled the man safely to the shore, local flashnews.gr reported.

It is not the first time that surfers have been called to save a bather from drowning in the sea area of ​​Chania, sources told the local media.

The incidents are many, both during the summer season but also after the end of the lifeguard coverage season from beginning of October onward, when lifeguards are no longer at the beaches.

It is indicative that there have been 6 rescues of bathers by surfers in the areas of Stalos and Platanias just in the last 4-5 days.

  1. I know that area well. It is mostly a long straight beach and subject to rip tides forming. I wouldn’t swim there even in good weather.
