Two Metro stations in downtown Athens will be closed to public for several hours on Friday, December 6, due to students’ gatherings and rallies to commemorate the killing of teenager by Alexandros Grigoropoulos by a police officer in 2008.
According to a decision by the Greek Police:
- Metro station “Panepistimio” will close as of 9 a.m. on Friday
- Metro station “Monastiraki” (Lines 1 & 3) will close 11 am – 3 pm and again from 5 pm.
Trains will pass through these stations without stopping and without passengers to have the possibility to get on or off.
These two stations will open again at police’s orders.
Note that the first rally is scheduled to start at 12 o’ clock noon and the second at 6 o’ clock in the afternoon. Start point is the entrance of University of Athens on Panepistimiou Avenue.
Traffic jams are expected in downtown Athens in the area around Omonia and Syntagma Square.
