One more MP of SYRIZA left the party bringing its seats in the Parliament down to 26.
MP Rania Thraskia, a former TV persona, announced on Tuesday she is leaving the party to become an independent lawmaker.
“I will continue my parliamentary work unwavering, as I have done until today and since the first day of my election, for a just society, for citizens who do not simply survive, but prosper,” Thraskia said among others in her letter to Parliament Speaker.
The party has asked her to return her seat, as it did with others who have resigned and did not meet the request.
She is the ninth SYRIZA MP to leave the party after the congress beginning of November. The election of the new SYRIZA leader could not hinder the downfall.
The party that had elected 47 lawmakers in summer 2023 elections lost its status of “main opposition” being replaced by socialist PASOK.
Meanwhile, the number of independent MPs in the Greek Parliament has increased to 24.
