Greece’s Supreme Court ordered a preliminary investigation into allegations by a 16-year-old Egyptian teenager boy who said he was tortured and raped by a group of fellow inmates at a migrant camp in Malakasa, north of Athens.
The probe ordered on Thursday will seek to ascertain whether there is a case of criminal negligence to be brought against the administrators of the state-run facility where the incident took place earlier this week.
Four Egyptian nationals. among them two minors, have been reportedly arrested in connection with the attack.
The assault is said to have taken place in a container home reserved for minors but lacking protection from intruders and trespassers.
The 16-year-old boy, also an Egyptian national, said he was attacked by a group of around seven men, who tied him up, burned and beat him, and raped him over the course of several hours.
