Tempi victims’ families file lawsuit against appellate judge

Maria Karystianou, president of the Tempi Victims’ Association, along with other relatives of the victims, filed a lawsuit against appellate investigator judge Sotiris Bakaimis, accusing him of failing to include numerous audio and video recordings in the case file related to the Tempi train tragedy on February 28, 2023.

Speaking to media on Thursday morning, Karystianou said that 649,000 files, including audio and video recordings from February 28 and March 1, 2023, were seized and handed over to the appellate investigator but were not included in the case file.

“A few days ago we learned that 649,000 files, audio and video files relating to the first two days, February 28 and March 1, were seized and handed over to the investigator but are not in the case file. Do you understand? After two years we are sitting and dealing with videos of dubious authenticity that suddenly appear when videos from the two days in question have been in the hands of the investigator from the beginning. For two years you understand the extent of the cover-up and mockery on the part of the investigator,” Karystianou said.

She added that “we filed a lawsuit against the investigator judge and anyone else involved in this act and we expect that justice will finally begin to function properly and that the whole truth will be revealed quickly.”

Earlier today and accompanied by their legal representatives, families of the Tempi victims met with judge Bakaimis to receive an update on the investigation, following new videos of the (alleged) freight train that emerged beginning of the week, that is two years after the Tempi tragedy where 57 people were killed.

The videos have been sent so that their authenticity is confirmed. The preliminary investigation reported on Thursday that the video show indeed a freight train and that they will be sent for further examination by experts.

The lawsuit comes amid growing public outcry over the Tempi train collision investigation, especially regarding the cause of the fire. Many experts argue that it may have been caused by illegal cargo transported by the freight train.

The victims’ families organize a big commemoration event on February 28, while  public and private sector unions will launch a general strike.

  1. What, he ‘forgot’?

    649k, that’s not little.
The cover up in Greece is just like in Serbia. Over there, the rabbit hole goes all the way to the top. People have been protesting against it for weeks.
