Greece’s Foreign & Defense Affairs Council approves Procurement Plan

Chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Greece’s Government Council on Foreign and Defense Affairs (KYSEA) met on Wednesday to be briefed on latest developments and to approve the Procurement Plan for 2025-2036.

The members of KYSEA were briefed by Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and Environment & Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou on the country’s Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) that was announced on Wednesday as part of the National Spatial Strategy for Maritime Space (NSSMS).

The KYSEA council also discussed and approved Greece’s Long-Term Defense Procurement Plan for the period 2025-2036, according to a statement issued by the prime minister’s press office.

Following the meeting, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias reportedly criticized opposition parties for claiming they had not been informed of Greece’s intention to acquire a fourth Belharra frigate from France.

During a meeting with French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu  on Monday, the Greek Defense minister announced the acquiring of Exocet missiles and also the acquisition of a fourth Beharra frigate.
