Greek Traffic Police announced the traffic and parking regulations plan from Thursday, November 6 until Sunday, November 9, due to the 42nd Authentic Athens Marathon.
Several roads in the Attica Basin will be closed to traffic especially on the weekend November 8-9, while parking of vehicles will also be prohibited.
The Greek Police also published the telephone numbers that citizens can call for information.
Note that parallel to the Authentic Marathon on Sunday , there are road races of 5, 10 and 1.2 km (children race).
On Saturday, November 8, from 17.00 to 20.40, two consecutive Road Races of 5 km & 5km Universities Night Run) will be held from Vas. Amalias Ave. (Syntagma) to Panathenaic Stadium, along the route:
Start: Amalias Ave. – Panepistimiou – Riga Feraou – right Akadimias – left Vas. Sofias Ave. – U-turn on Vas. Sofias Ave. – NIMITS intersection – Vas. Sofias Ave. (in front of the Hilton) – Herodou Atticus Ave. – entrance to the Propylaea of the Panathenaic Stadium – entrance to the Panathenaic Stadium – Finish.
On Sunday, November 9, 2025, the 42nd Authentic Athens Marathon will be held from 09:00 to 18:20, along the route:
Start: Marathon – Marathon Ave. – entrance to the Tomb (left lane) – exit from the Tomb (right lane) – Marathon Ave. – Stavrou interchange – Mesogeion Ave. – Michalakopoulou Ave. – Pheidippides Ave. – Kifisias/Alexandra Ave. – Vass. Sofia Ave. – Herodes Atticus Ave. – Panathenaic Stadium.
At the same time, on the same day (9-11-2025) and at the following times:
-08.00΄- 10.10΄, a 10 km Road Race will be held from Vas. Amalias Ave. (Syntagma) to Panathenaic Stadium, along the route:
Start: Vas. Amalias Ave. – Panepistimiou – Char. Trikoupi – right Akadimias Ave. – left Vas. Sofias Ave. – Pheidippides Ave. – left Mesogeion Ave. to Police School – U-turn (at the Police School traffic light) – Mesogeion Ave. -Mihalakopoulou Ave. – left Mesogeion Ave. – Vas. Sofias Ave. (in front of the Hilton) – Herodou Atticou Ave. – entrance to the Propylaea of the Panathenaic Stadium – Entrance to the Panathenaic Stadium – Finish.
– 10.20am- 10.50am, Children’s 1,200m Road Race and Special Olympics will be held along the route: Vas. Sofias Ave. – Ir. Atticus – Panathenaic Stadium.
Due to the aforementioned races, gradually from Thursday, November 6, until Sunday, Novermber 9, the following TEMPORARY and GRADUAL TRAFFIC ARRANGEMENTS will be implemented along the Marathon route, in the area of the Municipalities of Marathon, Rafina-Pikermi, Pallini-Gerakas, Paiania-Glyka Nera, Agia Paraskevi, Papagou-Holargou, Chalandri, Filothei-Psychiko and Athens, as follows:
– THURSDAY 6-11-2025:
* Suspension of vehicle traffic from 08.00 on Thursday 6-11-2025 until 22.00 on Sunday 9-11-2025:
– Herodou Atticou, along its entire length and at perpendicular to it to the first parallel street.
– Vas. Georgiou B’, in the section between Rigillis and Ir. Attikou streets and on the perpendiculars to it to the first parallel street.
* Prohibition of stopping and parking of vehicles:
– Herodou Attikou, along its entire length and on its perpendiculars to the first parallel street, from 06.00΄ on Thursday 6-11-2025 to 21.00΄ on Sunday 9-11-2025.
– Around Diskovolou Statue Square (intersection of Herodou Attikou and Vas. Konstantinou Ave.), from 06.00΄ on Thursday 6-11-2025 to 21.00΄ on Sunday 9-11-2025.
– FRIDAY 7-11-2025:
* Suspension of vehicle traffic from 19.00 on Friday 7-11-2025 until 22.00 on Sunday 9-11-2025:
– Vas. Konstantinou Ave., in the section between Vas. Olga Ave. and Eratosthenous Street, in the traffic flow towards Evangelismos.
– Ardittos Ave., in the section between Vouliagmenis and Vas. Olga Avenues, in the traffic flow towards Evangelismos.
– M. Mousourou Ave., along its entire length and perpendicular to it up to the first parallel street.
– SATURDAY 8-11-2025:
* Prohibition of stopping and parking of vehicles on Archimedous Street, in the section between Pl. Plastiras and M. Mousourou Street, from 06.00 on Saturday 8-11-2025 until 18.30 on Sunday
9-11-2025.
* Suspension of vehicle traffic on Archimedes Street, in the section between P. Plastiras and Mousourou Streets, from 08.00 to 20.30 on Saturday 8-11-2025.
* Prohibition of stopping and parking of vehicles from 09.00 on Saturday 8-11-2025 to 18.30 on Sunday 9-11-2025:
– Mesogeion Avenue, from the height of P. Kanellopoulou Avenue to the height of Pheidippides Street.

If you are not skilled in driving through the Attica basin and the city of Athens, avoid to do so over the weekend November 8-9, 2025.
Note that due to the races, also public transport like buses and trolley buses, the tram will have to change their routes.
Much to my knowledge, no problems are along the Athens Riviera, Piraeus and the suburbs of western Athens.
