“This Christmas, we have the Omonia Square with the decoration it deserves,” Athens Mayor Costas Bakoyannis said on a social media post on Thursday.
“For several years we did not have a square and there was a lack of light all over the area,” the Mayor wrote on his Facebook account and posted pictures form the illuminated and festively decorated Square.
This historic Omonia Square in downtown Athens was revamped last summer.
PS Sadly, due to the night curfew and the lockdown we can enjoy the Omonia square in festive mood only on internet or on TV. Some commented under Bakoyannis post that due to the pandemic circumstances he would have spent the money to help people in need.
