Letter bomb for the Director of High Security Prison in Athens

A letter bomb was sent to the Director of the high security Korydallos prison in Athens. The envelope was detected at noon time among the correspondence at the guards’ booth at the male prisoners premises. The suspicious package was neutralized by experts. Greek media report that the envelope had stamps and a misleading sender address in Florence, Italy. The sender was mentioned as EUROFOR, the Operational Rapid Force of European Union! The letter, a A4 sized yellow plastic cells envelope, was addressed to the director of the prison.

Currently police investigates whether the letter was indeed sent form Italy or it was locally sent and the Italian stamps were used for misleading purposes. The letter was detected by the Xray security check machine at the guards’ booth. It contained gunpowder, a clip and a battery.

Last year a series of letter bombs was sent to several foreign diplomatic representations in Athens, however per courier service.
