At nine o’ clock Wednesday night, the desperate employees of the private television channel ALTER stopped broadcasting and uploaded a black and white card reading: “The employees of ALTER are not slaves! They demand their due wages now! END THE CHARADE! ” Some weeks ago journalists stopped broadcasting news and infotainment programs and thus long after the management had stopped paying them. All management’s promised proved to be empty bubbles.
Today, employees anger and frustration reached its peak. Earlier today journalists and technical personnel gathered outside the tv channel and protested.
The television channel was running with repetition broadcasts.
Last Friday the management submitted a request for bankruptcy.
A Greek Lehman?
A bankruptcy of ALTER will possibly cause a tsunami of chain reactions in the advertisement market and lead many companies to economic collapse as they have ‘toxic’ cheques in their hands. Greek media claim, ALTER has debts of some 350 million euros.
