Tear gas and fires in garbage bins create a suffocating atmosphere in Exarchia district of Athens where protesters clashed with police on Thursday evening. Protesters hurled petrol bombs at riot police and set garbage bins on fire. Police fired teargas and chased the protesters through the streets of the area.

Anarchists gathered on Thursday evening to commemorate teenager boy Alexis Grigoropoulos, 15 who was killed by a policeman on 6. December 2009.
School and university students and members of left parties had protested earlier on Thursday.
