Berlin calls Italy: “You are not Greece”

The deadlock in government formation after Sunday’s election in Italy, did not only stirred up the markets but set also the back of Germany on fire. “You’re not Greece, the eurozone can not afford for a Greek-style scenario in Italy” Berlin told Italy through Philipp Missfelder, foreign policy spokesman of Merkel’s governing center-right party CDU.

“You, Italians, are not Greece, you are a member of G8 and key part of the monetary union,  the euro zone has no room for  new elections in your country,” Missfelder told Italian daily La Republica, adding that “such a  Greek-style scenario would be a window of excessive uncertainty.”

Government uncertainty and the option of new elections skyrocketed the borrowing spreads not only in Italy but also in other euro zone countries.

With kingmaker, comedian Beppe Grillo – leader of 5-Star party -to refuse participation in coalition government, new elections seem very possible.

The established political system attack him as ‘threat to democracy’.

Tinny margin elections winner, the leader of the centre-left, Pier Luigi Bersani, said that Beppe Grillo risked taking Italy down the same road as Greece.

Last year, Greece had to go to two elections rounds in order to manage the formation of a coalition government.

Short before the elections Beppe Grillo spoke to Greek Proto Thema and expressed his sorrow seeing Greece to have turned into a laboratory.

“I’m really sorry that these wonderful people became lab rat of the international markets. I don’t understand why they are attacked by the European media. The problem is not Greek, it’s also Portuguese, Irish, Spanish, Italian, European. Greece is the first country to have entered the swirl of economic powers and it will be the first to exit.”

Meanwhile, Greeks are kind of relieved not to be blamed for all disaster of this world – for a change.

  1. Let’s italian centerleft and M5S try to come to an agreement and just hope.
Despite chances being minimal, this post-electoral mess could maybe turn into an unexpected opportunity for everyone.
