German FinMin Schaeuble: Greece proved bailout program working, unemployment goes down

He must have a weird sense of humour. German finance minister Wolfgang Schaeuble sees nothing but effectiveness in the bailout program for Greece. In the country of 1,3 million jobless and 6%-7% recession.

“The policy of the euro rescue works and Greece is an example for this,”  Schaeuble told German magazine Impulse in an exclusive interview.

“Last year Greece had smaller deficit than expected, it has increased its exports to third countries and unemployment goes down.”

Praising the austerity policies in the countries of southern Europe and the efforts of Spain, Portugal and Greece he said:

“We have always said that if countries reliably cope  with their problems – in the case of Greece,  the economic sloppiness and the lack of competitiveness – then we give them the necessary time. This is the philosophy of the rescue plans. It works.”

Wolfgang Schaeuble added “Behind Europe is the idea, that we accept that others are different and take decisions for themselves.”

Impulse noted right away at the beginning of the interview, that “Schaeuble takes up the fight against the anti-euro mood in the [German] society a week after the founding of the Anti-Euro party “Alternative Deutschland” [Alternative Germany].”

PS I don’t know if Schaeuble praises the bailout programs and sees them working in Greece in order to pull the carpet under the feet of the anti-euro party. But I have the suspicion, that somebody put something in his Lager beer …
